Game Recap: Baseball |

Braendel Walks off Millersville

Seton Hill closed out a busy weekend of baseball with a single nine inning contest against Millersville.  Austin Braendel made sure the end of the weekend was a happy one for the Griffins as he sent everyone home happy with a ninth inning walk off homer.  The Griffins ended Millersville's ten game winning streak with a 9-8 victory.    SHU is now 8-8 on the season.

SHU starter Marshall McGraw got out of a jam in the top of the first with a double play and strikeout after the Marauders got the first two on.

The Griffins used that momentum to take a 1-0 lead in the bottom half of the inning.  Andrew Chuba led off with a double.  He moved to third on a groundout from Jordan Fiedor and scored on a sacrifice fly from Tommy Pellis

McGraw again danced thru the raindrops in the second inning.  After giving up a run with the bases loaded and no one out, McGraw limited the damage to just one run.

Seton Hill got that run back in the bottom of the second to take a 2-1 lead.  With one out, Isaiah DiAndreth singled.  After the second out, the Griffins drew three straight walks to force in a run, the last to Chuba.

Parker Denny doubled with two outs in the third.  He scored on an Isaiah DiAndreth single.  After a Chris Law single, Austin Braendel made it 4-1 with an RBI single.

Millersville got a run back in the fourth with a solo homer but Pellis answered it with a solo homer of his own to put SHU in front 5-2.

The Marauders tied the score at five with a three run homer in the fifth and added two more in the seventh to take a 7-5 lead.

SHU cut the lead to 7-6 in the seventh on an inside the park home run from Braendel.  The Griffins took the lead with two runs in the bottom of the eighth.  Chuba led off with a single.  After a fielders choice, Nick Stotler doubled down the right field line and Colton Carney scored from first to tie the game at eight.  Stotler moved to third on a passed ball and scored on a wild pitch to put SHU in front 8-7.

Millersville took advantage of three walks in the top of the ninth to tie the game at eight, setting up Braendel for his ninth inning heroics.  After a pop out, Braendel hammered a 3-1 pitch over the left center field wall into the practice field to give SHU a 9-8 win.

Stotler, DiAndreth and Braendel each had three hits for the Griffins.  Chuba finished with two.  Christian Seelhorst threw the final two innings for the Griffins to earn the win.

SHU returns to action on Friday when they open up PSAC West play on Friday at Clarion.
