Seton Hill made the trip to Edinboro with a chance to get within a half game of third place in the PSAC West with a win. The Fighting Scots had another idea as they used a 29-8 second quarter in route to an 88-68 victory over the Griffins. SHU is now 15-9 overall and 9-8 in PSAC play while the Scots improve to 16-6 overall and 11-5 in PSAC play.
Megan Marecic got the Griffins on the board with their first shot of the game as she drained a three to put SHU in front 3-0. The game then remained tight thru the first half of the quarter before back to back baskets from Marecic and
Lexi Civittolo gave SHU a 13-8 lead with 5:28 to play in the quarter. After the Scots tied the score at 13, Civittolo drilled a three and Marecic hit two free throws to push SHU back in front 18-13 with three minutes to play. A three pointer from
Tiana Stewart gave SHU a 23-20 lead after the first quarter.
A layup from
Taylin Tyler cut the Edinboro lead to 29-27 with 6:40 to play in the half. The Scots then went on an 11-0 run over the next three minutes to increase the lead to 40-27. Marecic hit a three to end the run but the Scots would outscore the Griffins 9-1 over the final three minutes to take a 49-31 lead into the halftime break. The Scots outscored the Griffins 29-8 in the second quarter.
The Scots built their lead to 52-33 early in the third quarter. The Griffins made one last run at the Scots as they used a 12-0 run to cut the lead to 52-45 midway thru the quarter. After an Edinboro basket,
Cheyenne Trest hit a three to cut the lead to 54-48 with 5:14 to play. The Scots took a 70-53 lead into the fourth quarter.
Six straight points from
Samantha Kosmacki trimmed the Scots lead to 70-62 with seven minutes to play. The Griffins would get no closer in the loss.
Marecic led three Griffins in double figures with 16 points. Civittolo added 14 points and Trest finished with 10.
Katie Nolan added 9 points and 8 rebounds.
SHU will continue their road trip on Saturday when they head to Erie to take on Mercyhurst at 1 PM.
