Griffins Move into PSAC Playoff Spot With Win

Seton Hill traveled to Edinboro for a PSAC West contest on Wednesday evening.  The Griffins outscored the Scots 45-39 in the second half in route to an 87-82 victory over the Scots.  With the win the Griffins move into the sixth and final playoff spot in the PSAC West.  SHU is now 8-15 overall and 6-11 in PSAC play while the Scots drop to 7-14 overall and 4-12 in PSAC play.

Edinboro took an early 8-2 lead over the Griffins in the first two minutes of the contest.  An old fashioned three point play from Trevor Blondin cut the Scots lead to 10-8 with just over fourteen minutes to play.  Brandon Alston answered a Scot three pointer to keep the lead at two (13-11).  The Scots extended their lead to six at 20-14 with just over eleven minutes remaining.

A basket from Blondin and a three from Nathan Davis cut the lead to 24-22 with 7:11 to go.  The Scots were able to push their lead to seven points twice in the half, the last time at 38-31 with 3:36 to play.  A dunk from Blondin cut the lead to 38-37 with 2:24 to play.  With the Scots leading by four, Davis hit a three to cut the lead to 43-42 at the halftime break.

A tip in from Milenko Predic tied the score at 48 early in the second half.  SHU took their first lead of the game at 52-51 on a Malik McKinney fastbreak bucket with 16:36 to play.  The Scots responded and took a 60-54 lead with just under fourteen minutes to play.  They were able to extend it to seven before a Blondin basket and Davis three trimmed the lead to 63-61 with under ten minutes remaining.

McKinney's three pointer gave SHU a 66-65 lead with 7:23 to go.  A fast break dunk from Predic tied the score at 70.  With the score tied at 72, Davis hit a three pointer with 2:47 to play.  Another Davis three pointer made it 78-74 with 1:21 left.  SHU then hit nine of ten free throws down the stretch to close out the win.

Davis led four Griffins in double figures with a game high 27 points.  He made it a double double with 10 rebounds.  Blondin finished with 21 points.  Predic added 16 points and McKinney finished with 11.

SHU returns to the Erie area on Saturday when they travel to Mercyhurst for another PSAC West contest.
