Griffins Fall in PSAC Road Contest at Mercyhurst

Seton Hill ended its two game road trip with a matchup at Mercyhurst on Saturday afternoon.  The Lakers pulled away in the second half for an 82-58 victory over the Griffins.  SHU falls to 8-16 overall and 6-12 in PSAC play while the Lakers are 17-5 overall and 12-5 in PSAC action.

The Griffins remain in the sixth and final PSAC playoff spot following today's action.  SHU is a half game ahead of Edinboro and California (PA) for the final playoff spot.

Seton Hill took a 2-0 lead on a Trevor Blondin basket.  That would be the only lead the Griffins would hold in the contest.  The Lakers would score the next 13 points to take a 13-2 lead with just under fifteen minutes to play in the half.  Five free throws and a Nathan Davis basket cut the lead to 13-9 with 11:10 to play.

A three pointer from Brandon Alston and three free throws from Davis tied the contest at 15.  Over the next five minutes the Lakers were able to push their lead to 26-18 with just under six minutes to play in the half.  Two three pointers from Davis late in the half cut the Laker lead to 40-33 at the half.

Over the first four minutes of the second half, the Lakers used a 15-2 run to build a 55-35 lead.  The Griffins were able to cut the lead to fifteen on a Milenko Predic basket with 12:39 left in the half.  Mercyhurst then went on a 10-0 run to push their lead to 25 midway thru the half.  The lead remained at least 20 for the rest of the half.

Blondin paced the Griffins with 21 points.  Davis finished with 20.

SHU returns to action on Wednesday as they host Pitt Johnstown at 7:30 PM.
