Seton Hill continued play at the PSAC/MEC Challenge in Fairmont, WV with a matchup with the host Fairmont State on Saturday evening.
The Griffins ran their record to 2-0 with a 93-73 victory over the Fighting Falcons. SHU continued their hot shooting from three point land as they hit 15 of 33 three point attempts.
SHU came out of the gates fast as they built a 12-4 lead just four minutes into the contest. A layin from
Cheyenne Trest pushed the lead to ten points. Back to back three pointers from
Tiana Stewart gave SHU a 25-19 lead at the end of the first quarter.
After Fairmont cut the lead to three early in the second quarter, Stewart and
Rena Enterline hit threes to push the lead back to ten at 31-21 with 7:32 to play in the half. A three from Trest and a layin from
Madelyn Fischer extended the lead to 39-22 midway thru the quarter.
Kelly Weeks hit a three before the halftime break to give SHU a 44-30 halftime lead.
Katie Nolan scored three straight baskets for the Griffins as they led 50-32 with 6:45 to play in the third. A quick 7-0 run from the Griffins gave them their largest lead of the game (21) at 57-36 midway thru the quarter. SHU held that twenty one point lead, 69-48, heading to the fourth quarter.
Samantha Kosmacki hit two threes to open the fourth quarter and SHU led 75-50 with 8:46 to play. SHU was able to extend their lead to 32 points on back to back threes from
Kelly Weeks. SHU led 89-57 midway thru the quarter.
Stewart posted a double double with 18 points and 14 rebounds. Four other Griffins reached double figures. Weeks finished with 11 points while Fischer Nolan and
Courtney Cecere each added 10. Trest tossed in 9 points. She also added 6 assists.
The Griffins will travel to Loretto for an exhibition with St Francis on Tuesday and will play their home opener next Saturday against Malone at 4 PM.
