Farian, Livorse Lead Griffins to Home Win

Seton Hill began a home weekend of PSAC action with a matchup with Slippery Rock on Friday evening.

After dropping the second set, the Griffins responded to win sets three and four for a 3-1 win over the Rock.  SHU improves to 15-9 overall and 10-5 in PSAC action while the Rock falls to 7-19 overall and 2-12 in the PSAC.

The Griffins broke open a close first set with a quick 4-0 run on two kills from Jillian Livorse and an Erin Parks ace to take a 9-4 lead.  Another 4-0 run pushed the lead to 13-6.  Back to back kills from Jessica Hanson keyed a third 4-0 run and put SHU in front 17-7.  Another Livorse kill gave SHU a 1-0 lead with a 25-15 first set win.

Slippery Rock took a 5-1 lead over the Griffins in the second set and never looked back as they never trailed in the set as they evened the match at one with a 25-20 second set win.

The Rock continued that momentum over into the third set as they took an early 6-3 lead.  Four kills from Livorse in a 7-0 Griffin run put SHU back in front 10-6.  Parks added an ace and Bobbi Rempe and Taylor Sabol also had a block during the run.  A kill from Sabol and two more from Viktoria Farian increased the lead to 14-8.  Back to back kills from Farian pushed the lead to 17-11.  The Rock answered with a 4-0 run to get back within two at 17-15.  After a Rock attack error, Livorse put two to the floor to give SHU a 21-16 lead.  Two more kills from Farian and an ace from Livorse gave SHU a set point.  Terese Mihalcin ended the set with a kill and SHU took a 2-1 lead with a 25-20 third set win.

The early portion of the fourth set was tightly played until the Griffins went on a 5-0 run to take an 11-7 lead.  Veronica Johns had two aces during the run.  A Livorse kill, a Sabol/Katie Koziarz block and Livorse ace put SHU in front 23-17.  A solo block from Koziarz and a Rock error gave SHU the match with a 25-18 fourth set win.

Livorse and Farian led the Griffins with 19 kills each.  Both had double doubles as Farian had a match high 23 digs and Livorse added 13.  Sabol paced the offense with 44 assists.  Sabol and Rempe each had three blocks.

SHU continues PSAC play on Saturday afternoon when they host Clarion at 1 PM.
