Seton Hill opened their 2019-20 season on the road in Fairmont, WV for the PSAC/MEC Challenge. The Griffins met Concord in the first game of the challenge.
The Griffins came out on fire from three point land and continued to hit three pointers throughout the contest in an 93-82 victory over Concord.
It was all
Cheyenne Trest in the early portion of the game as she scored nine of the team's first fourteen points as SHU led 14-10.
Rena Enterline followed with a three pointer to give SHU an 8-0 run where they built their largest lead of the early going 17-10 with 4:39 to play in the quarter. Back to back three pointers from Enterline and
Madelyn Fischer pushed the Griffins lead to 24-12 with 1:30 left in the quarter. SHU continued to rain in the threes as
Samantha Kosmacki drained a three, the seventh of the quarter for the Griffins as they pushed their advantage to 27-12 late in the quarter. Another Kosmacki three gave SHU a 30-12 advantage after the first quarter. SHU closed the quarter on a 21-4 run.
Lexi Civittolo hit one of two free throws to open the quarter but the Mountain Cats went on an 8-4 run to trim the lead back to fifteen with six minutes to play in the half. Civittolo ended that run with a three pointer to push the lead back to 38-20. Concord was able to get back to within eight at 44-36 but two Fischer three pointers in the last minute gave SHU a 53-37 halftime lead.
Civittolo hit back to back three pointers midway thru the third quarter to extend the SHU lead to 66-51. A three from Trest gave SHU its biggest lead of the game at 73-51 with three minutes left in the third quarter. SHU took a 78-61 lead into the fourth quarter.
Concord would get no closer than eleven points in the fourth quarter as the Griffins cruised to the 93-82 win.
Civittolo led the Griffins with a career high 24 points. Trest also hit double figures with 20 points. Fischer also hit double figures with 12 points.
Courtney Cecere, Enterline and Kosmacki each finished with eight. Civittolo,
Taylin Tyler and Fischer each had six rebounds.
Sydney Rabold and Cecere each added four assists.
The Griffins finished 18-49 from three point land. Both are high marks for the program since joining the PSAC.
SHU will continue play in the PSAC/MEC Challenge on Saturday evening when they take on host Fairmont State at 6 PM.
