The Griffin volleyball team ended their three match road trip with a matchup with Mercyhurst on Sunday afternoon.
Seton Hill completed their trip with a sweep of the homestanding Lakers. SHU is now 14-9 overall and 9-5 in PSAC competition. The Lakers drop to 14-11 overall and 6-8 in PSAC play. SHU leads the Southwest Division by three matches with with five matches to play.
SHU used kills from
Viktoria Farian,
Bobbi Rempe and a Farian ace to take a 7-5 lead early in the first set. After the Lakers took a 10-8 lead, SHU went on a 6-0 run with two aces from
Carrie Leazer to take a 14-10 lead. SHU would hold that lead throughout the rest of the set and took a 1-0 lead in the match with a 25-20 first set win.
A kill from
Erin Parks and a
Veronica Johns ace put SHU in front 12-9 midway thru the second set. The Griffins held that three point lead throughout the rest of the set until the Lakers cut the lead to two at 24-22. Farian ended the set and gave SHU a 2-0 lead with a 25-22 second set win.
Mercyhurst used a 5-0 run to break a 10-10 tie midway thru the third set. SHU answered back with four straight points. Two on Farian aces and one on a Rempe block. The Griffins retook the lead with a 5-0 run later in the set.
Jillian Livorse had two kills and
Erin Parks closed out the run with an ace. Rempe and Farian teamed up for block on match point to give the Griffins the win.
Farian led the Griffins with 14 kills. Livorse added 10 and Parks finished with 6. Sabol led the offense with 39 assists. Farian added 24 digs. Rempe led SHU with 4 blocks.
Seton Hill will host Slippery Rock next Friday evening as they continue PSAC play.
