The Griffins continued PSAC crossover action on Sunday afternoon as they hosted Bloomsburg to close out the first weekend of PSAC play.
Both
Tiana Stewart and
Katie Nolan posted double doubles as five Griffins reached double figures in a 90-80 victory over the Huskies. SHU is now 5-0 on the season and 2-0 in PSAC play while Bloomsburg drops to 1-4 overall and 0-2 in PSAC play.
For the second day in a row, the Griffins came out of the gates and took a large early lead. This time they built an 11-0 lead over the first five minutes of the contest. Nolan opened play with a three point play. Stewart followed with five straight and
Cheyenne Trest drained a three to give SHU the early lead. Bloomsburg then battled back to cut the SHU lead to 16-13 at the end of the first period.
Over most of the second period, the teams exchanged leads back and forth. SHU took their last lead of the quarter on a three pointer from
Sydney Rabold with 2:09 left in the half. Bloomsburg scored the final six points of the half to take a 37-33 lead into the halftime break.
A layin from Nolan tied the score at 39 with 7:42 to play in the third quarter.
Lexi Civittolo then drained a three to put SHU back in front, 42-39. Leading 49-46, Stewart hit two three pointers to bookend a 12-4 in which the Griffins built a 61-49 lead with 1:50 to play in the quarter. Stewart hit another three pointer at the end of the quarter to give SHU a 66-55 lead heading into the fourth and final quarter.
Stewart opened the fourth quarter scoring with another three pointer to push the lead to 69-57. Trest hit a three pointer as SHU built the lead to fourteen at 76-62 with 4:50 to play. Bloomsburg was able to cut the lead to seven points but the Griffins hit eight of eight free throws to close out the win.
Stewart posted a double double of a career high 20 points and 10 rebounds. Nolan also reached double double status with career highs of 19 points and 17 rebounds. Trest added 16 points. Civittolo finished with 12 points and
Courtney Cecere was the fifth Griffin in double figures with 10 points.
SHU will return to the court after the Thanksgiving break when they host Frostburg State on Sunday, December 1st at 4 PM.
