Women's Hoops Runs Win Streak to Six with OT Win

Seton Hill returned to non conference action after the Thanksgiving break with a home matchup with Frostburg State on Sunday afternoon. 

After trailing 36-31 at the half, the Griffins used a 24-19 third quarter then outscored Frostburg State 15-8 in overtime for an 85-78 win.  SHU is now 6-0 on the season while Frostburg starts the season 1-6. 

The Griffins again used a fast start to take an early lead over an opponent.  This time, they jumped out to a 13-3 lead midway thru the first quarter.  Five different Griffins scored points over the first five minutes with Katie Nolan scoring four and Sydney Rabold adding a three pointer.  Frostburg outscored the Griffins 12-6 over the final five minutes and the Griffins took a 19-15 lead after the first quarter. 

Frostburg scored the first basket of the second quarter to cut the lead to two but three points from Madelyn Fischer and a basket from Nolan pushed the lead back to seven at 24-17 with 7:53 to play in the half.  Nine straight from Frostburg gave them their first lead of the contest.  They closed the half on a 19-7 run to take a 36-31 halftime lead over the Griffins. 

Two free throws from Lexi Civittolo and a three pointer from Cheyenne Trest tied the score at 36 early in the third quarter.  A three from Courtney Cecere put SHU back in front 41-39 with 7:52 to go in the quarter.   The Bobcats retook the lead 51-47 with 4:13 to play.  A jumper from Trest and a three pointer from Tiana Stewart gave SHU a 53-51 lead late in the quarter.  The game headed to the fourth quarter tied at 55. 

Stewart drained another three pointer and Nolan followed with a basket to give SHU a 60-57 lead early in the fourth.  Frostburg answered right back with a 7-0 run in just over a minute to take a 64-60 lead.  Two free throws from Civittolo tied the game at 68 with 2:48 to go.  Nolan put SHU in front 70-68 but the Bobcats tied the score at 70 with a basket with nine seconds to play to send the game to overtime. 

The teams exchanged one free throw to start the overtime period.  Two free throws from Trest and a four points from Cecere put SHU in front 77-71 with 1:29 to play.  Civittolo answered a Bobcat layin to keep the lead at six, 79-73 with 47 seconds left.  Trest then hit six of eight free throws down the stretch to close out the game. 

Trest led four Griffins in double figures with 20 points. Katie Nolan added 17 points and 9 rebounds.  Civittolo tossed in 16 and Stewart added 13 points and 8 rebounds. Cecere added 7 points, 9 assists and 11 rebounds.

SHU will return to PSAC Crossover action next Saturday at Lock Haven.
