Griffins Battle but Are Eliminated From PSAC Tournament

Seton Hill opened PSAC Tournament play on the road at East Stroudsburg in the PSAC Quarterfinals on Tuesday evening.

The Griffins battled the third seeded Warriors throughout the match but came up just short, falling in four sets.  All four sets were decided by just two points and three of the four went to extra points.  SHU drops to 19-10 overall while the Warriors improve to 27-6.

East Stroudsburg took an early 5-2 lead in the first set.  SHU answered with five straight to take a 7-5 lead.  Jillian Livorse had two kills during the run.  The Warriors took a 14-11 lead and SHU burned a timeout.  SHU retook the lead 20-18 on a kill and block from Livorse and an Erin Parks ace.  Two more Livorse kills and an ESU service ace put SHU two points from the set at 23-21.  The Warriors battled back to take a 25-24 lead but a Parks kill saved a set point.  SHU again took a 26-25 lead on an ESU error but three straight points from the Warriors gave them the first set at 28-26.

The Warriors took an 8-3 lead to start the second set.  A Parks kill and blocks from Cameron Baril/Bobbi Rempe and Rempe/Parks got SHU to back within two at 8-6.  Three straight kills from Livorse tied the set at 11.  ESU used a 4-1 run to take a 23-19 lead.  Two kills from Sidney Chapman and four ESU errors put SHU in front 24-23.  Kills from Chapman and Baril saved set points and tied the set at 26.  Katie Koziarz gave SHU a set point at 27-26 with a kill.  The referees then awarded ESU a point to tie the set at 27.  Two SHU attack errors put the Warriors ahead 2-0 with a 29-27 second set win.

For the third straight set, the Warriors took an early led in the set.  Two kills and a block from Baril keyed a 6-0 run that put SHU in front 10-6.  ESU responded with a 10-4 run to take a 16-14 lead.  Another kill from Baril and a block from Koziarz and Taylor Sabol put SHU in front 20-19.  Another Baril kill and two ESU errors put SHU in front 23-21.  The Warriors tied the set at 23 but a Livorse kill and Livorse/Rempe block gave SHU the set and cut the Warriors lead to 2-1.

Seton Hill started the fourth set and took a 6-2 lead early in the set.  SHU was able to build their lead to 16-8 in the set.  A Baril kill gave SHU a 20-15 lead late in the set.  A Warriors service error put SHU within three points of the set at 22-18.  Two SHU hitting errors and a service error tied the set at 22.  Viktoria Farian made it 23-22 with a kill.  A SHU hitting error and ESU kill put the Warriors in front 24-23.  An ESU error tied the set at 24 but a Warrior kill and SHU hitting error gave the Warriors the set and the match.

Baril led the Griffins with 16 kills.  Livorse added 12. Sabol led with 44 assists and a team high 23 digs. Rempe had 4 blocks.

The Griffins now must wait until Monday night's NCAA Selection Show to see if their season will continue in the NCAA Atlantic Regionals.  SHU was seventh in last week's NCAA rankings and the final regional rankings will be announced on Wednesday afternoon.   Eight teams in the region make the NCAA Regional including the winners of the PSAC, MEC and CIAA Tournament.
