Turnovers Costly in Loss to Edinboro

Seton Hill hosted Edinboro in PSAC West action on Saturday afternoon at Offutt Field in Greensburg, looking for their third straight victory.

Edinboro took advantage of five Griffin turnovers in a 37-10 win over the Griffins.  The Griffins fall to 2-5 overall and 2-3 in the West while Edinboro improves to 2-6 overall and 2-3 in the West.

The Scots won the toss and took the ball to start the ballgame.  The Griffin defense forced a three and out on the first possession and Seton Hill took over at their own 25 yard line.  SHU drove 75 yards in nine plays for the game's first touchdown as Ryan Barabe hit Matthew Williams for a 13 yard touchdown pass.  Hunter Miller's extra point gave the Griffins a 7-0 lead with 9:48 to play in the contest.  Both teams were forced to punt on their next possession.  Fardan Allen ended the next Edinboro possession with an interception in the endzone to preserve the 7-0 lead.  The Griffins carried the 7-0 lead into the second quarter.

Jayvon Wright recovered a fumble early in the second quarter to end a Edinboro drive.  Seton Hill took over at the Boro 29 yard line but a missed field goal ended the drive.  Edinboro finally got on the scoreboard with 10:17 to play in the half on a one yard touchdown run.  The Scots took advantage of a Griffin interception and kicked a 22 yard field goal to take a 10-7 lead with 5:41 to play.  Another Griffin interception led to a Scots touchdown with 47 seconds to play and Edinboro took a 17-7 lead into the halftime break.

Both teams went three and out on their first drives of the second half.  Seton Hill marched 62 yards in 10 plays with Miller hitting a 32 yard field goal to trim the lead to 17-10 with 7:15 to play.  The big play on the run was a Michael Valentino 34 yard run.  The Scots answered with a 21 yard field goal to push the lead to 20-10 late in the quarter.

Another Edinboro field goal extended the lead to 23-10 with 9:01 left in the contest.  A interception return for touchdown increased the lead to 30-10 with 8:08 to play.  The Scots closed out the scoring with a touchdown run with 2:13 to play.

Barabe finished 10-21 for 122 yards and a touchdown before an injury cut short his day.  Valentino rushed for 65 yards on 13 carries.  Michael Elardo caught five passes for 67 yards.  Jayden Emberton-Gaines led the Griffins with 12 tackles including one for loss.  Fardan Allen added 11 tackles and one interception.

The Griffins will close out their home schedule next Saturday when they host Indiana (PA) at noon.  It will be the team's senior day.
