Volleyball Sweeps IUP

The Griffin volleyball team started its PSAC Southwest Division weekend with a matchup at IUP on Friday evening.

Seton Hill won a tight first set and then pulled away in the second and third sets as they were able to sweep the homestanding Crimson Hawks.  SHU is now 11-8 overall and 6-4 in PSAC play while IUP drops to 5-14 overall and 4-6 in PSAC play.

SHU took an early 8-3 lead over the Crimson Hawks in the first set.  A quick 3-0 run on kills from Jillian Livorse, Viktoria Farian and Terese Mihalcin pushed the advantage to 11-5.  IUP fought back to tie the set at 18 and took a 21-19 lead.  Another Farian kill and a Taylor Sabol ace put SHU back in front 22-21.  A Bobbi Rempe kill and Farian ace gave SHU a set point at 25-24 but the Crimson Hawks were able to kill it off.  A kill and a block from Rempe gave SHU a 1-0 lead with a 27-25 first set win.

IUP led throughout the early portion of the second set.  Four straight from the Griffins put them in front 12-10.  Two kills from Cameron Baril extended the SHU lead to 19-14.  Three straight IUP errors gave SHU a 2-0 lead with a 25-18 second set win.

The Griffins took an early 6-1 lead in the third set.  Seton Hill continued to pull away in the third set and closed out the match with a 25-18 win.

Viktoria Farian led the Griffins with a match high 13 kills. Cameron Baril also reached double figures with 10. Bobbi Rempe added 8. Taylor Sabol finished with 34 assists. Farian also had a match high 17 digs.
