Seton Hill took a break from PSAC play on Wednesday afternoon as they hosted Salem University in a non conference matchup on Senior Day. The Griffins honored eleven seniors at halftime of the match.
Salem scored a late PK goal to tie the match and then scored late in the first overtime period to spoil the Griffins Senior Day with a 2-1 victory. SHU falls to 6-6-1 while Salem improves to 5-8-1.
Neither team was able to find the back of the net in the first half. Seton Hill held a 4-3 advantage in shots in the half. The Griffins also had the one corner kick in the half.
With just over twenty five minutes to play in the second half, the Griffins got on the scoreboard first.
Tormod Staal Simonsen took a pass from
Alex Dysen and put a shot past a charging keeper to give the Griffins a 1-0 lead. Salem tied the score at one with a penalty kick goal with 7:31 to play in regulation. The game remained tied at one and headed to an overtime period. Salem outshot the Griffins 10-8 in the second half.
The Tigers scored the game winner with 49 seconds to play in the first overtime period. They hit a shot from about 25 yards out into the left side of the net for the game winner.
Austin Iddon finished with 5 saves for the Griffins. Simonsen led SHU with three shots on goal. Dysen added two.
The Griffins return to PSAC West play on Saturday when they travel to Slippery Rock.
