Farian Leads Griffins to Five Set Win over Fairmont State

Seton Hill took a break from PSAC play on Tuesday evening as they hosted Fairmont State in a non conference match.

Viktoria Farian did it all for the Griffins as she finished with 27 kills, 13 digs, 4 blocks and 3 aces in a five set win for the Griffins.  SHU improves to 10-8 overall while Fairmont State falls to 9-12.

SHU took an early 5-2 lead in the first set after a kill from Bobbi Rempe and Jillian Livorse.  Fairmont State then went on a 12-6 run to build a 14-11 lead.  A kill from Farian tied the set at 14.  A Farian/Rempe block again tied the set at 21.  Each team fought off set points from the other but two Griffin hitting errors gave the Falcons a 28-26 first set lead.

The Griffins used a 9-0 run in the second set to turn a 4-4 tie into a 13-4 lead.  Farian opened the run with a kill and followed it with three service aces in a row.  Erin Parks also had two kills in the run.  Fairmont State would get no closer than five points the rest of the set as SHU tied the match with a 25-17 second set win.

The early portion of the third set was tightly played.  SHU ran off four straight points to take a 13-11 lead midway thru the set.  Taylor Sabol and Lauren Nelson opened the run with a block.  A Nelson kill, Sabol ace and Farian kill ended the run.  Four straight for the Griffins including two Farian kills extended the lead to 17-12.  Kills from Farian and Rempe pushed the lead to 20-13 and forced the Falcons to take a timeout.   A kill from Livorse and two more from Farian gave SHU a 2-1 lead in the match with a 25-19 third set win.

Fairmont State controlled the play in the fourth set and tied the match at two with a 25-18 fourth set win.

A block from Nelson and Sabol and a Farian kill gave SHU an early 3-1 lead in the fifth set.  Fairmont tied the set at three.  SHU then scored seven straight points to take control of the set.  Farian had two kills, Carrie Leazer added an ace and Rempe and Cameron Baril teammed up for a block during the run.  Three kills from Livorse down the stretch gave SHU the fifth set with a 15-6 win.

Farian led the Griffins with a match high 27 kills.  She also added 13 digs, 4 blocks and 3 aces.  Livorse added 14 kills and 9 digs.  Sabol finished with 43 assists.  Leazer added 28 digs and Rempe finished with 5 blocks.

SHU will return to PSAC action on Friday as they travel to Indiana (PA).
