Seton Hill began PSAC Southwest Division play on Tuesday evening as they hosted California (PA).
The Griffins opened PSAC Southwest Division play with a sweep of the visiting Vulcans in a match that featured many long scoring runs. SHU improves to 8-7 overall and 4-3 in PSAC play while the Vulcans fall to 9-6 overall and 4-3 in PSAC play.
Seton Hill opened the first set by taking a 5-2 lead on kills from three different Griffins. With the set tied at nine, SHU ran off five straight points, two on
Jillian Livorse kills to take control of the set. Back to back kills from
Erin Parks and Livorse gave SHU a 25-20 first set lead.Â
In the second set, SHU opened with a 4-0 run. Another 4-0 run later in the set pushed the Griffins lead to 20-10. Two aces from
Veronica Johns helped in the run. SHU took a 2-0 set lead with a 25-15 second set win.Â
Cal opened the third set with a 4-1 lead. Six straight from the Griffins, two on Livorse kills, put the Griffins in front 9-7. With the set tied at 13, SHU went on a 6-0 run started on a
Bobbi Rempe and
Viktoria Farian block. Cal fought back to tie the set at 23 but a kill from
Jessica Hanson and a Parks kill gave SHU the sweep with a 25-23 third set win.Â
Livorse led the Griffins with 11 kills. Farian added 9. Parks, Hanson and Rempe each added 7 kills.Â
Taylor Sabol ran the offense with 31 assists. Farian also added 4 aces, 2 blocks and 14 digs. Hanson led SHU with 3 blocks. Johns also had 14 digs. Sabol added 13.Â
SHU will hit the road this weekend when they travel to Kutztown and East Stroudsburg.Â
