Seton Hill headed to Clarion for a PSAC West contest on Wednesday evening. After a rough start, the Griffins used strong second and fourth periods in route to a come from behind 74-62 victory over the Golden Eagles. SHU is now 10-4 on the season and 4-3 in PSAC play while Clarion drops to 7-7 overall and 1-6 in PSAC play.
Clarion jumped out to a quick 7-2 lead on the Griffins midway thru the first quarter.
Megan Marecic cut the Eagles lead to 11-9 with just under a minute to play in the quarter. Clarion took a 12-9 lead into the second quarter. Both teams struggled from the floor in the quarter, both shooting 4-21.
The Griffins took their first lead of the game at 13-12 on a basket from
Courtney Cecere and two free throws from
Samantha Kosmacki early in the second quarter. Clarion retook a 20-17 lead with 6:47 to play in the half. Over the next two minutes the Griffins went on a 9-0 run, the final three from
Cheyenne Trest, to take a 26-20 lead with 4:20 to go. SHU took a 33-27 lead into the halftime break.
After Clarion cut the Griffin lead to two early in the second half, back to back three's from Marecic and Trest gave SHU a 41-35 lead with 6:10 to play in the quarter. Clarion trimmed the SHU lead to one late in the quarter before SHU settled for a 49-47 lead entering the fourth quarter.
Sydney Rabold opened the fourth quarter by draining a three pointer. Cecere followed with a basket and SHU took a 54-47 lead one minute into the fourth quarter. Clarion fought back and got to within one at 56-55 with 6:54 to play in regulation. Midway thru the quarter the Griffins led 59-57. The Griffins then used a 13-0 run to take control of the game, leading 72-57 with 1:39 to play.
Lexi Civittolo scored five points during the run.
The Griffins shot 57% in the second half and finished 48% for the game.
Megan Marecic finished with a game high 22 points.
Cheyenne Trest finsihed with 12 points.
Courtney Cecere was the third Griffin in double figures, just missing a double double, with 11 points and 9 rebounds.
Lexi Civittolo scored 8 points in the win.
SHU returns home on Saturday when they host Gannon at 1 PM.
