Griffins Drop PSAC West Home Contest

The Griffins hosted Gannon on Saturday afternoon in the McKenna Center in a PSAC West Battle.  Gannon led for over 37 minutes in the contest and cruised to a 79-65 win over the Griffins.  SHU is now 10-5 overall and 4-4 in PSAC play while the Knights are now 7-9 overall and 3-6 in PSAC play.

Seton Hill took a 2-0 lead on a basket from Hannah Laslo to open the contest.  Gannon then scored 11 of the next 13 points to build an early 11-4 lead midway thru the first quarter.  The Knights took a 19-8 lead into the second quarter. 

A basket from Lexi Civittolo opened the scoring in the second half.  Over the next four minutes the Knights outscored the Griffins 12-4 to take a 31-16 lead midway thru the second quarter.  Gannon built their lead to as many as 19 points before settling for a 41-24 halftime advantage.

Gannon continued to build their lead in the third quarter.  The Knights led 55-34 with 3:35 to play in the quarter.  Two free throws from Madelyn Fischer a layin from Cheyenne Trest and a three from Samantha Kosmacki trimmed the lead to 55-41 late in the quarter.  Gannon scored the final bucket of the quarter to take a 57-41 lead. 

With Gannon leading 61-41, SHU used a 9-0 run to get back in the game and trailed 61-50 with seven minutes to go.  Civittolo's layin cut the lead to 72-63 with 1:26 to go but the Griffins would get no closer.

Trest paced the Griffins with 16 points.  Civittolo added 13 points and Megan Marecic also reached double figures with 11 points.  S

SHU returns to action on Wednesday when they host Mercyhurst at 5:30 PM.
