Seton Hill closed out its three game road trip with a PSAC West contest at Pitt Johnstown on Saturday afternoon. The Griffins led from the opening basket and cruised to an 86-64 win over the Mountain Cats. SHU is now 12-7 overall and 6-6 in PSAC play.
The Griffins jumped out to a quick 5-0 lead over the Mountain Cats with a quick three from
Megan Marecic and a layin from
Katie Nolan. SHU was able to extend their lead to 9-0 at the first quarter media timeout. UPJ scored the next seven points out of the break to cut the lead to 9-7.
Madelyn Fischer and
Tiana Stewart added baskets to push the lead back to 13-7. SHU led 13-9 after one quarter of play.
With the Griffins leading 18-13 in the second quarter, the Griffins went on an 8-0 run to take a 26-13 lead, forcing a UPJ timeout with seven minutes to play in the quarter.
Samantha Kosmacki and Marecic hit threes in the run. A steal and layin from
Courtney Cecere and another Marecic extended the lead to 31-15. Back to back three pointers from
Lexi Civittolo and Marecic gave SHU a 41-20 lead with 3:20 to play. SHU took a 48-24 lead into the halftime break.
Seton Hill was on fire from the floor in the second quarter. SHU was 14-24 from the floor and an impressive 7-10 from three point land.
Seton Hill hit three more three pointers over the first half of the third quarter, one each by Cecere, Civittolo and
Sydney Rabold, as they extended their lead to 63-33 with 4:11 to play in the quarter. SHU continued to lead throughout the quarter and took a 70-43 lead into the fourth quarter.
The Griffins finished the contest with 14 three pointers. SHU caused 20 turnovers with Cecere leading with 5 steals. Civittolo and Marecic added 4 steals.
Megan Marecic led the Griffins with a game high 22 points.
Lexi Civittolo added 17 points.
Katie Nolan finished with 12 points and
Courtney Cecere was the fourth in double figures with 11 points. Cecere added 8 assists while Nolan finished with 8 rebounds.
SHU will return home on Wednesday as they host IUP in a PSAC West contest.
