#5 IUP Too Much For Griffins

Seton Hill hosted #5 IUP on a cold and blustery Wednesday evening in the McKenna Center.  IUP jumped out to a 17-4 lead after the first quarter and never looked back in a 72-57 victory over the Griffins.  SHU is now 12-8 overall and 6-7 in PSAC play while IUP improves to 17-1 overall and 12-1 in PSAC play.

The Crimson Hawks scored the first 12 points of the contest and led 12-0 before Katie Nolan got the Griffins on the board with a basket at the 4:21 mark of the quarter.  Two Megan Marecic free throws were the only two other points the Griffins scored in the quarter as they trailed 17-4 after one.  SHU started the contest 1-10 from the floor.

IUP scored the first nine points of the second quarter to build their lead to 26-4 with 7:18 to play before the half.  The Crimson Hawks build their lead to 26 points before Marecic hit a three at the buzzer to cut the lead to 43-20 at the half.

SHU used an 8-0 run to cut the IUP lead to 52-30 with 4:41 to play in the quarter.  A three pointer from Tiana Stewart trimmed the lead to 54-35 with two minutes to go.  IUP build the lead back to 22 after three quarters of play and led 59-37 entering the fourth quarter.

The Griffins used jumpers from Stewart and Samantha Kosmacki plus a Courtney Cecere three pointer to cut the IUP lead to 59-44 with over seven minutes to play.  Back to back threes from Lexi Civittolo and Cheyenne Trest cut the lead to 70-57 with 2:30 left in regulation but IUP would get the final two points for the 72-57 win.

Marecic led the Griffins with 12 points.  Civittolo and Trest each added 8 points.  Stewart and Kosmacki each tossed in seven points.

SHU will return to action on Saturday when they host Clarion at 1 PM for Senior Day.
