The Griffins continued on their three game road trip with a PSAC crossover matchup at Bloomsburg on Wednesday evening. SHU trailed by as many as twelve points and rallied to take a lead but came up just short in an 85-82 road loss. SHU drops to 11-6 overall and 5-6 in PSAC action. The Huskies improve to 12-6 overall and 8-3 in PSAC play.
The Huskies took a quick 10-4 lead over the Griffins to start the contest. SHU took their first lead of the game (14-13) on a three pointer from
Megan Marecic with 3:15 to play in the quarter. Five straight points from
Cheyenne Trest extended the lead to 19-13. A three from Marecic pushed the lead to 22-15 with 1:43 to play in the quarter. Bloomsburg tied the game at 22 before
Katie Nolan's bucket gave SHU a 24-22 lead after the first quarter.
The second quarter was not a good one for the Griffins as they were outscored 23-11 and were just 2-15 from the floor including 1-9 from three point land. The quarter opened well as
Tiana Stewart hit a three to push the lead to 27-22. The Griffins went nearly seven minutes between made field goals and trailed 36-31 after Nolan's basket with 2:42 to play. Bloomsburg extended their lead to ten, 45-35 at the half.
Seton Hill opened the third quarter on a 7-0 run, four points coming from Trest, as they cut the lead to 45-42 with 7:40 left in the quarter. A three pointer from Marecic tied the game at 49 with 6:14 left.
Sydney Rabold hit the first of her 3 three pointers to tie the game at 56. Nolan followed with a basket to give SHU a 58-56 lead with 1:56 to go. Bloomsburg took a 62-60 lead into the fourth quarter.
Another Rabold three pointer gave SHU a 65-64 lead early in the fourth quarter. Rabold answered a Bloomsburg three with another of her own to push the SHU lead to 75-73 with 4:40 to play. SHU took their final lead of the game at 77-76 on a Nolan bucket with 2:50 to play. Bloomsburg hit back to back baskets to take an 80-77 lead with just over two minutes remaining. Trest hit a long three pointer to cut the lead to 81-80 with 13 seconds to play. Bloomsburg hit both of their free throws and Nolan hit a put back to cut the lead back to one with just one second to play. The Huskies hit two free throws for the 85-82 win.
Marecic led four Griffins in double figures with 18 points. Nolan just missed a double double with 17 points and 9 rebounds. Trest finished with 16 points. Stewart tossed in 10 points. Rabold added 9 points on 3-3 shooting from three point land.
SHU will close out their road trip on Saturday when they travel to UPJ for a PSAC West contest.
