Griffins Upend Cal

CALIFORNIA, PA. - Trevor Blondin scored a game-high 23 points, including the go-ahead free throws with 12 seconds to go as the Seton Hill University men's basketball team overcame a double-digit first half deficit to earn a PSAC win over California University of Pennsylvania on Monday.

// NOTABLES
• Seton Hill improves to just 4-12 overall and 2-8 in the PSAC.
• California falls to 6-10 overall and 4-6 in the PSAC.

// LEADERS
Trevor Blondin led Seton Hill with a game-high tying 23 points on 7-of-14 from the floor, including 3-of-7 from distance and 6-for-7 from the line. Nathan Davis had 21 points and nine rebounds, and Malik McKinney netted 16 points.
• Zyan Collins tied Blondin for 23 points of his own to pace Calfornia. Collin MacAdams had 17 points and nine rebounds, and Brent Pegram finished with 16 points.

// HOW IT HAPPENED
•  California started off the game on fire, amassing a 22-11 lead over the first nine minutes of play. However, SHU would reverse that trend and use a 20-7 run over the next eight minutes to take their first lead of the game, 31-29, with 3:32 to go in the half. Both teams ended up cooling off, but the Griffins would take a 38-36 lead into halftime.
•  Both teams shot 50% or higher from the field in the first half - California shot 50% while Seton Hill shot 53.3% - while the two teams combined for 13 turnovers.
•  A tight game in the second half as neither team led by more than six. The Vulcans rushed out to a 44-38 advantage over the first two minutes only to see that lead swing in Seton Hill's favor, 62-58, just before the eight minute mark. Cal would gain the momentum again on a 6-0 run to tie the game at 62-62 with 5:53 remaining. The teams would trade buckets over the next few minutes until Trevor Blondin calmly hit two free-throws to SHU a 72-70 lead with 12 seconds to go in regulation. Cal would have a chance at the end, but ended up missing both of a two-shot foul.
•  Halftime served to cool both squads off as they shot under 40% from the field in the second frame. Seton Hill made 8-of-9 free-throws while Cal netted just 7-of-9. Trevor Blondin and Malik McKinney shot a combined 7-for-9 down the stretch.
