Seton Hill opened PSAC West play on Wednesday evening with a matchup with Slippery Rock. The Griffins used a 16-3 run to close the game in route to a 73-65 road win. SHU is now 9-3 overall and 3-2 in PSAC play.
The Griffins jumped out to a quick 8-2 lead just two minutes into the contest. After the Rock tied the score at eight,
Courtney Cecere hit a driving layup to give SHU a 10-8 lead heading to the first media timeout. Back to back baskets from
Katie Nolan extended the SHU lead to 15-8 with three minutes to play.
Tiana Stewart drained a three pointer to give SHU a 20-12 lead after the first quarter of action.
Megan Marecic led the Griffins over the first half of the second quarter, scoring seven of their eight points to give SHU a 28-20 lead with 4:26 to play in the half. Seton Hill ended the half on a 9-2 run to take a 38-24 halftime lead. The Griffins went 9-11 from the free throw line in the quarter to build their lead to fourteen.
Megan Marecic led the Griffins 10 points.
Cheyenne Trest added 9 points,
Katie Nolan finished with 8 and
Courtney Cecere with 7.
Slippery Rock opened the second half on an 11-4 run forcing a SHU timeout with the Griffins leading 42-35 with 5:50 to play in the third quarter. The Rock continued their run and cut the SHU lead to three at 48-45 before
Lexi Civittolo hit a three and followed that with a layin to give SHU a 53-45 lead. The Rock hit a three at the buzzer to cut the SHU lead to 53-48.
The Rock opened the fourth quarter on a 6-1 run to tie the score at 54 with 8:46 to play in regulation. Slippery Rock continued their run and took a 62-57 lead with 5:45 to play. Cecere hit a three pointer to tie the score at 62 with 3:40 to play. A three pointer from Civittolo gave SHU a 65-62 lead. Marecic hit four of four free throws down the stretch as the Griffins closed the game on a 16-3 run for the 73-65 win.
Megan Marecic posted her third straight double double with 20 points and 12 rebounds.
Katie Nolan also posted a double double with 12 points and 11 rebounds.
Courtney Cecere and
Cheyenne Trest each reached double figures with 11.
Lexi Civittolo made it five in double figures with 10 points.
SHU will return home to host Edinboro on Saturday afternoon at 1 PM.
