Brown's Big Day Not Enough on Homecoming

Seton Hill hosted Clarion for Homecoming on Saturday afternoon in PSAC action.  Ardell Brown caught 12 passes for 204 yards and a touchdown but it was not enough as Clarion held on for a 19-16 road win.  SHU is now 0-5 on the season and 0-2 in PSAC play.  Clarion improves to 4-1 overall and 2-0 in PSAC play.

After giving up a big play on Clarion's first play from scrimmage, the Griffins defense forced a missed field goal.  SHU responded with an eight play, 80 yard drive to take a 7-0 lead.  Colton Mitchell hit Ardell Brown with a 41 yard play to move into Clarion territory.  Mitchell completed the drive with a five yard TD pass to John Makell IV.  Both teams punted on their next possession.  Clarion cut the SHU lead to 7-6 with 1:08 to play in the first quarter on a five yard TD run.  The extra point was missed.

The Golden Eagles took a 9-7 lead on a 29 yard field goal with 7:08 to play in the half.  After a Griffin punt, the Eagles used two big plays to extend their lead to 16-7 with 4:22 to play in the second quarter.  Clarion took the 16-7 lead into the halftime break.

The second half did not start well for the Griffins.  After getting the ball, SHU got a delay of game before running a play and then threw an interception on their first play from scrimmage.  The defense responded and forced a punt.  Ryan Barabe took over at the quarterback position and drove the Griffins 83 yards in 13 plays, setting up a John Watt 20 yard field goal.  Barabe hit Brown with a 43 yard pass to move out from their own goal line to start the drive.  Clarion took the 16-10 lead into the fourth quarter.

Clarion added to their lead with a 32 yard field goal with 4:29 to play in the fourth quarter.  Brown ripped the ball from a Clarion defender for a 37 yard game to start the Griffins next drive.  Brown capped the drive with a nine yard TD reception from Barabe that trimmed the lead to 19-16.  The extra point was missed.  The Griffins could not recover the onside kick and Clarion ran out the clock to close out the win.

Clarion outgained the Griffins 334-308.  The big numbers in the game were Clarion's 37:41 of time of possession and the Griffins 14 penalties for 125 yards.

Colton Mitchell was 13-21 for 132 yards and 1 touchdown.  Barabe finished 9-17 for 118 yards and 1 touchdown.  Brown caught 12 passes for 204 yards and a touchdown.  The 204 yards are the third most receiving yards by a Griffin in a single game.  Cole Shuker ended the game with 11 total tackles.

SHU will travel to Gannon next weekend for a 12 PM kickoff.
