The Griffins put up a good fight at #20 Wheeling Jesuit on Tuesday evening but the Cardinals were able to sweep the Griffins by a 3-0 score. SHU drops to 8-6 overall while the Cardinals improve to 14-3.
SHU came out strong in the first set and built an 11-6 lead over the Cardinals. A kill from
Leah Bisignani and an ace from
Jillian Livorse pushed the SHU lead to 13-7. After four straight WJU points, the Griffins answered with two of their own to build their lead to 15-11. After Wheeling battled back to tie the set at 20,
Erin Parks got a kill to give SHU a 21-20 lead. Parks answered a Wheeling point with another kill to put SHU in front 22-21. Another Parks kill tied the set at 23 but two WJU points gave the Cardinals a 25-23 first set win.
Seton Hill had an early 3-1 lead in the second set. Back to back kills from Bisignani and Parks gave SHU a 5-3 lead. Wheeling responded with six straight points to take a 9-5 lead and never gave up that lead in the set, taking a 2-0 lead with a 25-17 second set win.
Wheeling led throughout the third set and held a 22-16 advantage late in the set when the Griffins made one last run. A kill from Parks and Livorse and two Livorse aces brought the Griffins back to within 22-21. Bisignani and
Viktoria Farian teamed up for block to tie the set at 22. Parks and Bisignani combined on a block to give SHU a 23-22 lead. After a WJU kill, Farian answered to give the Griffins a set point at 24-23. Two WJU kills and a SHU hitting error allowed the Cardinals to take the match following a 26-24 third set win.
Jillian Livorse led the Griffins with 13 kills.
Erin Parks finished with 9. Livorse also added 15 digs and 4 aces.
Hannah Moeller finished with 30 digs.
SHU returns to action on Friday when they host Slippery Rock at 7 PM.
