Seton Hill closed out its back to back PSAC weekend with a road matchup at Pitt Johnstown on Saturday afternoon. The Mountain Cats were able to outlast the Griffins in a five set battle in the Sports Center. The Griffins drop to 8-5 overall and 2-2 in PSAC play while the Mountain Cats improve to 6-8 overall and 2-2 in PSAC play.
The Griffins came out of the gates on fire in the first set and took a 9-1 lead early in the set.
Viktoria Farian and
Leah Bisignani each had two kills during the run. The Mountain Cats answered with a 6-0 run to trim the lead to 9-7. UPJ tied the set at 13. Another kill from Bisignani and an ace from
Jillian Livorse pushed the SHU lead to 17-14. SHU used a 3-0 run to build a 21-17 lead. A kill from
Jessica Hanson gave SHU a 23-19 lead. UPJ then scored seven of the final eight points of the set to take a 1-0 lead with a 26-24 first set win.
SHU took an early 9-5 lead in the second set. The Mountain Cats used a 5-0 run to trim the Griffins lead to 16-15 but the Griffins answered with six straight points to take control of the set. Back to back kills from Livorse tied the match at one after 25-18 second set win.
The third set was a battle with neither team holding more than a two point lead. SHU used a 4-0 run to take a 20-18 lead. The Mountain Cats answered with six straight to take a 24-20 lead. Two kills from Bisignani and one from
Erin Parks plus two UPJ errors gave SHU a 25-24 lead. SHU had three set points but could not convert and UPJ rolled off three straight points to take the set 31-29.
The Griffins again built an early lead, this time 8-1 in the fourth set. SHU was able to increase their lead to 18-6 and cruised to a 25-14 fourth set win that tied the match at two.
Kills from
Rachel Satira and Livorse gave SHU an early 2-0 lead. A kill and a block from Farian gave SHU an 8-7 lead. UPJ used a 3-0 run to take an 11-9 lead before SHU answered with a 3-0 run on a Farian kill and two UPJ errors to take a 12-11 lead. The Mountain Cats won the set by scoring the final four points.
Farian led the Griffins with a match high 19 kills. Livorse added 16 kills. Hanson and Bisignani each finished with 8 kills. Hanson led with 6 blocks and Satira added 5. Farian had a match high 30 digs and
Hannah Moeller tossed in 25.
SHU will continue their road trip on Tuesday when they travel to Wheeling Jesuit.
