Griffins Drop PSAC West Opener at Slippery Rock

Seton Hill opened PSAC West play under the lights at Slippery Rock on Saturday evening.  The Rock used two third quarter touchdowns to pull away from the Griffins in a 49-26 win.  SHU falls to 0-4 overall and 0-1 in PSAC West play.  The Rock is 3-1 and 1-0 in PSAC West play.
 
The Griffins won the opening toss and deferred to the second half giving the Rock the ball to open the game.  The Rock drove 60 yards in 10 plays to take a 7-0 lead.  Seton Hill answered back with a field goal drive to cut the Rock lead to 7-3.  John Watt connected from 34 yards out to cut the lead to 7-3 midway thru the first quarter.  After the Griffins forced a punt, they were able to drive to the Rock 9 yard line but had to settle for another field goal, this one from 27 yards from Watt.  SHU trailed 7-6 after one quarter of action. 
 
On the first play of the second quarter, the Rock increased their lead to 14-6.  After the Griffins went three and out, the Rock overcame two big penalties to score from two yards out to increase their lead to 21-6 with 12:00 to play in the first half.  The Griffins drove all the way to the Rock one yard line on their next possession.  The big play was a fourth yard conversion on a pass to Uriah Rajkumar that got the Griffins to the two but the Griffins lost a fumble on the one yard line.  The defense got a stop and forced a punt.  Colton Mitchell then hit Kinan Humphrey with a 23 yard TD pass to cut the deficit to 21-13 with just over five minutes to play in the half.  The Rock then marched just 34 yards in four plays after a short SHU punt to take a 28-13 lead with 1:01 to play in the half.  Seton Hill did not take long to respond as they moved 65 yards in just five plays, the last a Mitchell to Travis Crummy ten yard TD pass that cut the Rock lead to 28-19 with 19 seconds to play before the half.
 
Slippery Rock scored two third quarter touchdowns to increase their lead to 42-19.
 
The Rock increased their lead to 49-19 with a touchdown on their first possession of the fourth quarter.  The Griffins trimmed the lead to 49-26 on a one yard TD pass from Mitchell to Ardell Brown with 6:21 to play in the game. 
 
Mitchell finished the game 33-55 for 399 yards and 3 touchdowns.  Brown pulled in 12 catches for 145 yards and a touchdown.  Rajkumar added 9 receptions for 89 yards.  Cole Shuker led the defense with 8 tackles. 
 
SHU will host Clarion next weekend for homecoming.  Kick is set for 4 PM.
