The #20 Griffins hosted Milllersville in an important early season Atlantic Regional battle on Friday afternoon. The Marauders scored twice in a three minute stretch in the second half in route to a 2-0 victory over the Griffins. SHU is now 5-2 overall and 4-2 in PSAC play while the Marauders improve to 6-1 overall and 5-1 in PSAC play.
SHU came out of the gates quickly and had three quality early chances but missed the net on both shot attempts and just missed a header on the third quality chance in the match's first ten minutes. The Marauders held a 6-5 advantage in shots in the half with a 3-2 advantage in shots on goal.
The Marauders got on the scoreboard just over three minutes into the second half as a ball was played back from the end line to a wide open player in the box who beat the Griffin keeper for a 1-0 lead. Just over thee minutes later, the Marauders increased their lead to 2-0. Millersville drove a ball into the box and jumped on a loose ball to make it 2-0. SHU nearly got on the scoreboard in the 84th minute but an
Italia Biondi shot was stopped and
Katie Kimmich's shot went wide.
The Griffins finished with a 13-10 advantage in shots. Millersville had a 4-2 advantage in corner kicks.
SHU will hit the road for a PSAC matchup at California (PA) on Sunday afternoon.
