SHU Rolls to Road Win at Mansfield

The Griffin soccer team made the long trip to Mansfield as they continued PSAC play on Saturday afternoon.  Seton Hill peppered the Mansfield net with 49 shots in the game in a 6-0 victory over the Mountaineers.  SHU has now won four in a row and is 5-1 overall and 4-1 in PSAC play.

Seton Hill again did not waste time in scoring.  Italia Biondi scored just 2:45 into the game as she beat the keeper from 15 yards out to give the Griffins the early 1-0 lead.  The Griffins increased their lead to 2-0 in the 28th minute.  Madison Schwerzler hit the crossbar then found the rebound and put it into the back of the net.  The Griffins finished with 21 shots in the half, 11 on net.  Jessica Neill recorded 4 saves in the half.

SHU scored three goals over a five minute stretch to put the game away in the second half.  Amanda Banfield opened the scoring with a goal from 20 yards out, beating the keeper to the left to give SHU a 3-0 lead.  It was the first collegiate goal for Banfield.  Less than two minutes later, Randi Selbekk beat the keeper then was taken down in the box, resulting in a red card on the keeper and giving Selbekk a penalty kick.  Selbekk buried the PK to extend the SHU lead to 4-0.  Just over two minutes later, Biondi scored her second goal of the match, this one from 20 yards out.  Ally Bloom scored her first collegiate goal late in the contest to push the Griffins lead to 6-0.  Selbekk assisted on the goal.

The Griffins recorded 28 shots in the second half, finishing the match with a 49-7 advantage over the Mountaineers.  Bloom led the Griffins with 9 shots.  Biondi finished with 7 and Schwerzler added 6.  Neill finished with 5 saves in net.

SHU will now host Millersville on Friday at 3:30 PM.
