Seton Hill closed out its play in the Hall of Fame City Classic in Canton, OH on Saturday. The Griffins battled host Malone in the morning then closed out the tournament with a matchup with Southern Indiana on Saturday afternoon. SHU rallied to defeat host Malone in five sets before getting swept by Southern Indiana in the afternoon. The loss ended a five match winning streak for the Griffins. SHU is now 5-3 on the season.
The Griffins opened the Malone match with a 25-19 first set win. The Pioneers responded with two 25-20 set wins to take a 2-1 lead in the match. Early in the fourth set, SHU went on a 7-0 run to break a 2-2 tie. A kill from
Jillian Livorse ended the set and tied the match up at two with a 25-22 win for the Griffins. Two kills from
Viktoria Farian and one from
Erin Parks gave SHU an early 3-0 lead in the fifth set. A block from
Rachel Satira and
Leah Bisignani and another kill from Farian pushed the SHU lead to 6-2. Malone battled back to get to within one at 11-10 late in the set. Two kills from Farian and two Malone hitting errors gave SHU a 15-10 fifth set win.
Farian led the Griffins with 19 kills. Livorse added 8 kills and Bisignani finished with 6. Parks, Satira and
Jessica Hanson each added 5 kills. Bisignani and Hanson each had 5 blocks. Farian also led the team with 19 digs.
Hannah Moeller finished with 16.
Southern Indiana swept the Griffins with a 25-22, 25-18, 25-16 set wins. Farian again led the Griffins with 14 kills. Hanson added 7 and Livorse, Satira and Bisignani each added 5.
Brynn Fleury led the team with 22 assists. Moeller had 18 digs, Farian added 11.
SHU will next be in action on September 14th when they host Bloomsburg in the PSAC opener.
