In a game that started over five hours late because of rain, the Griffins looked for back to back PSAC Championships as they took on Millersville in the PSAC Championship game late Saturday night into Sunday. SHU continued their magical run in the PSAC Tournament, winning their second straight PSAC Baseball Championship, with a 5-1 win over Millersville. SHU will earn the PSAC's automatic bid to the NCAA Regional. It will be their ninth straight NCAA Regional appearance. The Griffins are now 31-20 on the season.
It is the first back to back PSAC Championship since Kutztown won back to back titles in the 2005 and 2006 seasons.
Michael Bryja retired the Marauders 1-2-3 in the top of the first inning.
Chris Law tripled off the right center field wall with one out in the bottom of the first inning but Marauder starter Drew Miller got two strikeouts to strand Law at third base.
The Griffins got on the scoreboard in the second inning.
Mark Colella tripled to the right center field gap to lead off the inning. After an out, he scored on a wild pitch to give the Griffins a 1-0 lead.
The Marauders used a bunt base hit, a single to center field and then a fly out to deep center field and a ground out to short to tie the game at one in the fourth.
Seton Hill retook the lead in the bottom of the fifth inning.
Carl Turner singled with an out and moved to second on a
Garret Vrbanic sacrifice bunt. Sullivan then dropped a ball into short left field to score Turner and give SHU a 2-1 lead.
The Marauders had runners on second and third base with two outs in the sixth but Perry Dellavalle got a strikeout to end the inning. SHU could not take advantage of the momentum, stranding a runner at third base with one out after a strikeout and groundout.
SHU added an insurance run in the seventh inning. With one out,
Adam Bankovich was hit by a pitch. Turner then reached on another infield single. After a strikeout, Sullivan again came through with an RBI single to give the Griffins a 3-1 lead. They added another run with a bases loaded walk from
Tom McCarthy to make it 4-1.
Dellavalle stranded a leadoff single in the eighth, striking out the final hitter of the inning looking to end the eighth. SHU added another run in the eighth when Turner drove in
Colton Carney to give SHU a 5-1 lead.
Turner led the offense going 3-3. Sullivan had two hits and knocked in two runs. Law went 1-1 and walked three times.
Michael Bryja earned the win, going 5.2 innings, giving up 1 run on five hits. Perry Dellavalle earned the save, throwing the final 3.1 innings.
