The Seton Hill baseball team picked the right time of the year to be playing it's best baseball of the season. For the second straight game, the Griffins used the ten run mercy rule to win in the PSAC Baseball Championships. This time the Griffins eliminated Shippensburg by the score of 11-1 in seven innings to advance to their second straight PSAC Championship game. SHU has now won thirty games on the season and sit at 30-20 on the year.
The Griffins jumped all over the Raiders, scoring four times in the first inning. After an out,
Chris Law walked. He moved to third on a double from
Tom McCarthy.
Ryan Grieco drove in both runners to give the Griffins a 2-0 lead.
Mark Colella followed with a single to drive in Grieco and
Colton Carney added an RBI single to put SHU in front 4-0.
SHU added two more runs in the second inning.
Garret Vrbanic doubled with one out. He scored on a
Tyler Sullivan double to give SHU a 5-0 lead. Later in the inning,
Mark Colella singled thru the left side of the infield to drive in Sullivan and extend the SHU lead to 6-0.
Seton Hill used back to back to back doubles in the third inning to score two more runs. Vrbanic, Sullivan and Law each doubled in the inning.
Ryan Wardropper knocked in Grieco in the fourth inning to extend the Griffins lead to 9-0.
Shippensburg scored their lone run in the top of the fifth inning.
The Griffins ended the game in the bottom of the seventh.
Carl Turner led off the inning with an infield hit. He scored on a Vrbanic triple. Sullivan ended the game with a single to score Vrbanic, giving SHU a 11-1 win.
Colella led the offense going 4-4 with 2 RBI. Sullivan and Vrbanic each added three hits. Grieco added two.
Jared Kollar went the distance, giving up just one run on six hits.
SHU will now look for their second straight PSAC title when they take on Millersville.
