Carney Leads Griffins to PSAC Tourney Win over Bloomsburg

Seton Hill continued play in the winner's bracket of the PSAC Tournament on Thursday evening as they took on the third seed from the east Bloomsburg in Johnstown, PA.  The Griffin offense exploded for 19 runs and 17 hits in a 19-8, seven inning victory over the Huskies.  SHU improves to 29-20 on the season.

The Griffins jumped all over Bloomsburg in the top of the first inning.  Tyler Sullivan led off the game drawing a walk.  After two outs, Ryan Grieco drew a walk.  Mark Colella then knocked in Sullivan with a double.  Adam Bankovich was hit by a pitch.  Ryan Wardropper drew a bases loaded walk and then Colton Carney cleared the bases with a triple to right center field that gave SHU a 5-0 lead.

Bloomsburg answered with five runs in the bottom of the second inning to tie the game at five.

The game did not stay tied long as SHU responded in the top of the third inning.  Grieco was hit by a pitch and Wardropper walked with two outs.  Carney followed with a three run bomb to left center field to give SHU an 8-5 lead.  Garret Vrbanic singled and scored when Sullivan doubled to make it 9-5.

Grieco and Colella each added RBIs in the fourth inning to push the Griffins lead to 11-5.  Tom McCarthy, Colella, Bankovich and Carney each drove in runs in the fifth inning to extend the Griffins lead to ten runs at 15-5.

Bloomsburg scored twice in the bottom of the fifth inning to cut the lead to 15-7.  SHU got one of those runs back in the top of the sixth on a Grieco double.  The Huskies added a run in the bottom of the sixth before SHU tacked on three more runs in the seventh to push the lead to 19-8.

Carney led the offense with four hits and eight RBI.  He finished a double short of the cycle.  Colella finished with three hits and three RBI.  Law, McCarthy, Grieco and Bankovich each finished with two hits.

Seton Hill will now earn a day off on Friday as the weather has played havoc on the schedule.  SHU is now scheduled to play on Saturday afternoon at 12:30 PM against either Shippensburg, Millersville or Mercyhurst.
