Adam Bankovich's single with two out in the bottom of the seventh inning of game two gave SHU a doubleheader split with Indiana (PA) on Friday afternoon. SHU was held to three hits in a 4-2 game one loss. The Griffins responded with a 5-4 walk-off win in game two. SHU is now 21-18 overall and 13-9 in PSAC West play.
The Griffins took a 1-0 lead in the second inning of game one. After an out, Bankovich drew a walk.
Tom McCarthy singled and
Mark Colella was hit by a pitch to load the bases.
Ryan Grieco then hit a sacrifice fly to give SHU a 1-0 lead. IUP answered with three runs on five hits in the top of the third inning.
SHU got one of those runs back in the bottom of the inning when Bankovich knocked in
Jordan Fiedor. The Crimson Hawks picked that run right back up in the fourth to push their lead to 4-2 and end the scoring for game one.
Seton Hill again took a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first inning of game two.
Carl Turner singled, stole second base and scored when
Chris Law singled. SHU added two more runs in the second inning. Fiedor and
Colton Carney singled and stole bases to put runners on second and third with no one out.
Ryan Wardropper added an RBI groundout to make it 2-0 and Carney scored on a squeeze play from
Garret Vrbanic.
IUP got a two run homer in the fourth to cut the Griffins lead to 3-2. The Crimson Hawks added an unearned run in the fifth to tie the score at three. Turner led off the bottom of the fifth with a solo homer to give SHU a 4-3 lead. IUP tied the game in the seventh setting up Bankovich's heroics.
Vrbanic singled to lead off the seventh and moved to second on a bunt from
Tyler Sullivan. Law was hit by a pitch after Vrbanic moved to third putting runners at first and third with two outs. Bankovich then lined the first pitch he saw past the first baseman for a walk-off hit.
Turner, Bankovich, Wardropper and Vrbanic each had two hits.
SHU will close out the four game set with a doubleheader at IUP on Sunday afternoon at 1 PM.
