Griffins Come Out On Top In 18-14 Slugfest Against Lake Erie

GREENSBURG, PA. - Seton Hill sophomore attacker Logan Maloni led the Griffins in goals (5) and assists (3), and sophomore goalkeeper Max Eismann grabbed 14 saves to lead Seton Hill to an 18-14 victory over Lake Erie College in Great Midwest Athletic Conference men's lacrosse action Saturday afternoon at Dick's Sporting Goods Field.

// NOTABLES
• SHU moves to 11-1 overall and 5-0 in the G-MAC. The Griffins now sit firmly in the driver's seat to host the 2018 G-MAC Tournament
Max Eismann is 15-1 since taking over the Griffin goalkeeping duties
• The Griffins are now 7-4 against Lake Erie since 2010

// HOW IT HAPPENED
Lake Erie jumped out to a 1-0 lead, but Seton Hill responded with three of their own to take a 3-1 lead with 7:11 remaining in the first. After a Lake Erie goals pulled the game to 3-2, the Griffins would run off three more and outscore the Storm by a 4-1 margin to end the first quarter.

Seton Hill started off the second quarter in a similar fashion as the first by running off four-straight before Lake Erie got on the board to make it 11-4 with 10:38 to go in the half. The two teams would both score two more to make it 13-6 in favor of Seton Hill at the half.

Lake Erie came out got in the third, scoring three straight to cut the lead to 13-9 with 10:55, but Seton Hill responded with a three-goal stretch of their own to push the lead out to 16-9 with 6:59 remaining. The Storm ended the third quarter on a 2-0 run and cut the deficit to five, 16-11, going into the final frame.

In the forth, Lake Erie would outscore the Griffins by a 3-2 margin, but the Griffins would watch the clock tick down and hold on for the 18-14 victory.

// SCERBO CONTROLS THE FACE OFFS
In a game that featured the two top-scoring offenses in NCAA Division II, Jay Scerbo was the x-factor. The sophomore from Woolwich, NJ was 27-for-34 in face offs for the game. He also added a game-high 17 ground balls.

// MALONI'S BIG DAY
Logan Maloni collected a team and career-high eight points on the day as he scored five goals and dished three assists as well. Maloni also added a ground ball.

// UP NEXT
Seton Hill will finish out the home regular schedule on Saturday, April 21st against Limestone College. That game is scheduled for 12:00 PM.
