SHU Splits Again in Florida

For the third straight day, the Seton Hill softball team split a pair of games in Clermont, Florida.  SHU opened the day with a 4-1 win over Concordia St Paul on Tuesday morning.  The Griffins then dropped a tough 2-1 decision in nine innings to Assumption in the second game of the day.  SHU is now 4-4 on the season.

The Griffins got on the board in the bottom of the first inning of game one.  Brooke Bower led off with a single and moved to second on a bunt base hit from Jenna Osikowicz.  After a double play, Ashley Perillo singled in Osikowicz with a two out single.  SHU took advantage of an error in the second inning to take a 3-0 lead.  Chelsea Rohan and Allie Harvey each singled to put runners on first and second.  Both of those runners scored when Devyn Terry reach on an error on an attempted bunt.

Concordia scored their lone run in the top of the fifth inning.  SHU added an insurance run in the fifth inning.  Osikowicz and Christiana Skrabak each singled.  They moved up on a bunt from Perillo then scored on a ground out from Paige Hertzog

Osikowicz led the Griffins with three hits.  Rohan added two.  Terry earned her third win of the season in the circle.  She went seven innings, giving up just the one run.

In game two, neither team was able to score in the first seven innings.  The Griffins had a runner cut down at the plate in the second inning.  In the third inning, SHU had runners on second and third with one out but a pop out and a fly out ended the inning.

In the eighth inning, the international tiebreaker was used.  Ashley Boehm was placed on second and moved to third on a bunt from Bower.  Boehm scored on a double from Skrabak.  Assumption tied the game in the bottom of the inning.  The Griffins could not score a runner from third with one out in the ninth.  Assumption used a sac bunt then got a walk off wild pitch to end the game.

Bower was the lone Griffin with two hits.
