Griffins Split a Pair of Games on Opening Day in Florida

The Griffin softball team opened their Florida trip with a pair of games in Clermont, Florida on Sunday evening.  SHU opened the day with a 6-2 win over the University of the Sciences.  They closed out the day with a 6-2 loss to LeMoyne.  SHU is now 2-2 on the season. 

Sciences took a 1-0 lead in the second inning with a home run.  SHU answered right back with a solo homer of their own from Chelsea Rohan in the third inning.  SHU took a 3-1 lead in the fourth on hits from Jenna Osikowicz, Christana Skrabak and Ashley Perillo.  Sciences got one of those runs back in the fourth inning.  SHU got that run right back in the top of the fifth on hits from Osikowicz, Skrabak and Perillo. 

The Griffins added a run in the sixth after and error and then tacked on the final run of the game in the seventh.  Skrabak tripled and scored on a Samantha Estupinian single. 

Skrabak had three hits for the Griffins.  Osikowicz and Perillo each added two.

In game two the Griffins took advantage of two errors to take a 1-0 lead in the third inning.  LeMoyne got on the scoreboard in the fifth inning, scoring three times.  The Dolphins added three more runs in the sixth to take a 6-1 lead.  The Griffins scored their final run of the game in the seventh on a Brooke Bower double.

SHU will continue play on Monday as they take on Trevecca Nazarene and Ferris State on Monday evening.
