The Griffins returned to action on Monday afternoon with a single nine inning contest against Grand Valley State. The Lakers scored twice in the second inning and never trailed in the contest as the Griffins stranded 13 runners on base in a 10-6 loss. SHU drops to 4-2 on the season.
Grand Valley took a 2-0 lead in the bottom of the second inning after a leadoff walk. The Griffins got one of those runs back in the third inning on a solo homer from
Tom McCarthy.
The Lakers answered with a three spot in the bottom of the third inning to take a 5-1 lead over the Griffins.
Craig Lewis drove in two runs in the top of the fourth to cut the Lakers lead to 5-3.
Seton Hill had runners at first and third with no one out and then the bases loaded with two outs but could not score in the fifth inning. Grand Valley got two runs back in the bottom of the fifth. SHU cut the lead to 7-6 with three runs in the top of the sixth.
Tyler Peterson doubled in two runs and
Chris Law was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded to trim the Laker lead to 7-6.
GVSU got one of the run back in the bottom of the sixth to push the lead back to 8-6.
Lewis led the Griffins with four hits. Peterson added three.
The Griffins return to action on Tuesday with a doubleheader in Kissimmee.
