The Griffin softball team opened up PSAC West play by hosting Mercyhurst on Saturday afternoon in a doubleheader. Mercyhurst took game one by the score of 1-0 in eight innings. The Griffins returned the favor in game two with a 1-0 win over the Lakers.

Devyn Terry stranded a runner on second in the first inning and a runner at third in the second inning as both teams remained scoreless thru two innings.
Chelsea Rohan threw out a base runner at second in the fourth inning as the leadoff hitter was caught stealing.
In the bottom of the fourth inning,
Christiana Skrabak was hit by a pitch to lead off the inning. She moved to second on a sacrifice bunt by
Ashley Perillo but a flyout and strikeout ended the inning. The Lakers loaded the bases with two outs in the fifth but a ground out ended the inning.
Neither team scored as the game went to the international tiebreaker in the eighth inning. The Lakers were able to advance the runner to third and score on a fielders choice in the eighth. The Griffins could not execute a bunt and had the game tying run thrown out at the plate to end the game.
Terry was the hard luck loser in the circle, giving up just the runner put on second in the eighth inning. She allowed four hits and struck out four.
Neither team had a runner reach third base in game two until the bottom of the fourth inning.
Jenna Osikowicz was hit by a pitch and forced out on a play by Skrabak. Skrabak then moved to third on a Perillo single but a groundout ended the inning.
Brooke Bower threw out a runner at the plate on a ground ball to second in the top of the fifth inning.
The Griffins got on the scoreboard in the eighth inning. After two outs, Osikowicz singled and stole second. She scored on a single from Skrabak to give SHU a 1-0 lead.
Skyla Greco earned the complete game victory. She gave up 6 hits and struck out 3.
SHU returns to action on Tuesday when they travel to Pitt Johnstown.
