Softball Sweeps Salem University (WV)

GREENSBURG, Pa. - The Seton Hill University softball team swept Salem University (WV), 8-0 and 9-1, in non-conference action on Sunday afternoon at the Seton Hill University Softball Complex.

The Griffins, who had not played a game since March 9th, improve to 8-6 overall. Salem falls to just 1-17 overall.

In game 1, Christiana Skrabak's sacrifice fly to left field scored Brooke Bower from first to give SHU a 1-0 lead in the first inning. Skrabak would strike again in the third when she hit a towering homer to left field that scored Bower again to make it 3-0 in favor of the Griffins. Laken Ryen beat the throw home in the fourth to score a run in the fourth inning, and a Paige Hertzog double got past the Tiger shortstop to score Skrabak and Jenna Osikowicz to increase the SHU lead to 6-0. Hertzog would score again on a wild pitch in the 5th, and finally Nichole McClendon scored off of a Rebecca Meyer single up the middle in the 6th to give Seton Hill the 8-0 win.

Devyn Terry (4-3) picked up the win, spending all 6.0 innings in the circle and giving up just three hits while walking three and striking out four Tiger batters.

In game 2, Reyen ended a 0-0 tie in the second with a single homer to center field. Salem would respond in the next inning with a Garcia sacrifice fly that scored Callo and knotted the game up at 1-1. Osikowicz's single in the bottom half of the third scored Abby Thrower as Seton Hill exploded for six runs in the third. After Thrower scored, a Hertzog double to left center scored Osikowicz to make it 3-1. Skrabak would score in a ground out and Hertzog would score on a Terry single to center field to make it 5-1. Finally, Samantha Estupinian and Ashley Boehm scored on a throwing error by the Tiger shortstop and Seton Hill led 7-1. In the sixth, Brooke Bower scored off of a Skrabak single to left field, and Hertzog's double down the left field line scored Skrabak to give Seton Hill the 9-1 victory.

Leighann Pettis (2-1) picked up the win for Seton Hill. Pettis gave up one run on two hits while walking two and striking out two.
