Two Unearned Runs Costly in 13 Inning Loss at Millersville

Seton Hill looked to salvage a game from the three game set at Millersville in a single nine inning contest on Sunday afternoon.  SHU gave up two unearned runs, the final one in the 13th inning in a 4-3 loss to the Marauders.  It's the sixth straight loss for the Griffins who drop to 5-9 on the season.  Millersville improves to 12-7 on the season.

Millersville scored twice in the bottom of the second inning to take a 2-0 lead.  One of the runs was an unearned run.  SHU got one of those runs back in the top of the third inning after two outs.  Craig Lewis doubled and scored when Chris Law tripled.

The Griffins took a lead in the top of the fifth inning.  Tyler Sullivan singled to lead off the inning and scored when Lewis homered to left field to give SHU a 3-2 lead.  Law singled and advanced to third with one out but a ground out and a strike out ended the inning without the Griffins adding on any runs.

In the eighth inning, the Griffins loaded the bases with one out but a double play on a pop out to the second baseball ended the inning without any insurance runs crossing the board.  Millersville took advantage of the Griffins not adding on by tying the score at three in the bottom of the eighth thanks to three Griffin walks.

SHU put runners on first and second with one out in the ninth but a strikeout and groundout ended the inning.  In the eleventh, Sullivan singled and moved to third on two wild pitches with one out.  Millersville was able to get a groundout to short and a strikeout to strand Sullivan at third base.

Millersville then walked off the Griffins in the 13th.  The leadoff hitter reached on an error in the outfield and moved to second base on the error.  A ground out to first moved the winning run to third and a single with one out brought in the winning run.

Sullivan, Law and Lewis each had two hits for the Griffins.  Don McWreath, Kenny Wells and Jared Kollar combined to work the 12+ innings, giving up just two earned runs while striking out 17.

SHU is scheduled to return to action on Tuesday at Point Park.
