Four Score In Double Figures In Loss To Edinboro

GREENSBURG, Pa. - Spencer Casson, Nathan Davis, Trevor Blondin, and Trevor Lecuona all scored in double-figures, but it wasn't enough as Edinboro University held off the Griffins, 78-70, in Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference men's basketball action on Wednesday evening inside the Katherine Mabis McKenna Center.

Seton Hill slips to to 8-15 overall and 5-13 in PSAC play. Edinboro improves to 14-7 overall and 11-6 in the conference.

Trailing by as many as 15 in the first half (32-17, 3:59), the Griffins battled back to cut the seven (37-30) before the break. Edinboro opened the second half with a three by Mike Beck, but a layup by Tyler Bowling sparked a 15-7 run over the next seven minutes that saw the Griffins pull to within just two, 47-45, with 12:37 remaining. After the two teams misfired on possessions, Anthony Coleman's two free-throws pushed the SHU deficit back out to four, 49-45, with 11:13 on the clock. Trevor Blondin responded with a bucket, but that was met by a Keshawn Liggins jumper on the other end to keep the lead Fighting Scots lead at four, 51-47, with 10:48 remaining. Trevor Lecuona's triple on the next possession cut the lead the one, 51-50, but Edinboro would respond with a 10-0 run over the next two minutes to push the lead back out to double-digits, 61-50.  Seton Hill would cut the lead to four, 74-70, with 21 seconds remaining in the game, but an intentional foul called on the Griffins would lead to Edinboro receiving two free-throws and the ball. The Fighting Scots would make those free-throws and two more on their way to the 78-70 win.

Spencer Casson led the Griffins with 15 points on a 7-of-12 shooting night. The redshirt senior grabbed a game-leading and career-high 18 rebounds. His nine blocks narrowly missed his season-high 10 blocks at Clarion. Casson currently ranks 3rd in Division II in Blocked Shots Per Game and Total Blocks. Nathan Davis and Trevor Blondin scored 13 apiece, while Trevor Lecuona added 11 to round out the double-digit scorers for Seton hill. Tyler Bowling chipped in with nine points and seven rebounds.

Keshawn Liggins scored a game-high 29 points for the Fighting Scots. Anthony Coleman scored 15, and Trev Staunch scored 12 of his 13 points in the second half.

For the game, Seton Hill rebounded from a poor-shooting first half to make 27-of-63 (42.9%) shots from the floor, including 5-of-13 (38.5%) from three point land. SHU made just 11-of-21 (52.4%) shots from the foul line. The Griffins got 40 points in the paint, 10 points off of turnovers, and the bench contributed 16 points.

Seton Hill returns the hardwood on Saturday when they take on Mercyhurst in game two of a PSAC home men's and women's doubleheader. Tip-off is scheduled at 3:00 PM inside the McKenna Center.
