The Griffins continued PSAC West play at Slippery Rock on Saturday afternoon looking to extend its winning streak to three games. Seton Hill could not hold a nine point lead in the second half and fell in overtime by the score of 74-68. SHU is now 8-14 overall and 5-12 in PSAC action.
Both teams started the first half off well with the score tied at eight at the under 16 minute media timeout. A basket by
Trevor Blondin and
Spencer Casson pushed the Griffins lead to 13-9 with 11:55 to play in the half.
Seton Hill went on a 12-7 run over the next four minutes to extend their lead to 25-16 with 7:31 to play in the half.
Nathan Davis hit a three pointer to end the Griffin run. The Griffins then went scoreless for the next four minutes with the Rock cutting the Griffin lead to 25-24 with 3:34 to play. A four point play from Davis and a three pointer from Blondin near the end of the half gave the Griffins a 34-30 halftime lead.
Slippery Rock outscored the Griffins 9-5 over the first five minutes of the second half to tie the score at 39. A three point play on a dunk from Casson and a three pointer from
Milenko Predic gave SHU a 46-41 lead with 11:59 to play in the second half. The Griffins were able to extend their lead to 55-46 with 7:21 to play in the second half.
The Rock cut the Griffins lead to 57-52 with 4:47 to play in the game. The Griffins still held a 61-58 lead with 1:42 to play in the game. Casson's layup answered a Rock layup to give SHU a 63-60 lead with a minute to play. The Rock cut the lead to 63-62 with basket with 49 seconds to play. The Rock made one of two free throws to tie the score at 63 and the Griffins last second shot missed sending the game to overtime.
The Griffins went the first 4:29 of overtime without hitting a field goal until
Anthony Karabatsos hit a three with 31 seconds to play. SHU trailed 71-68 after the three pointer. The Rock would hit three of four free throws in the last 30 seconds to ice the game.
Spencer Casson led the Griffins with 16 points,
Nathan Davis finished with 15 and
Trevor Blondin added 14 points.
SHU returns home to take on Edinboro on Wednesday evening.
