The Griffins continued PSAC crossover action on Saturday afternoon when they hosted Millersville. SHU was able to hang on in the fourth quarter for a 84-77 home win. SHU is now 4-2 overall and 1-1 in PSAC play while Millersville drops to 2-6 overall and 0-3 in PSAC play.
Seton Hill opened the game on a 9-0 run to take an early lead.
Cheyenne Trest had five points in the first four minutes including a three point play to close out the 9-0 run. Millersville scored the next five points before the Griffins went on another 9-0 run to build the lead to 18-5 with 4:23 to play in the first quarter.
Megan Marecic capped the run with a three pointer. The Marauders answered with a 9-0 run of their own to cut the Griffins lead to 18-14. A layup from Madeline Fischer and five points from
Tiana Stewart gave SHU a 25-16 lead after the first quarter.
Millersville scored the first nine points of the second quarter to tie the contest at 25 with just over eight minutes to play in the half. Five straight from Trest put the Griffins back in front 33-29 with 4:20 to play in the half.
Lexi Civittolo followed with four points to build the lead to 37-32. A three from Marecic made it 40-34 with 2:23 left. SHU took a 43-37 lead into the halftime break.
Eight points from Civittolo carried the Griffins as they opened the second half on a 12-2 run to push their lead to 55-39 less than three minutes into the second half. SHU was able to build their lead to 19 points at 68-49. The Griffins carried a 68-51 lead into the fourth quarter.
Over the first four minutes of the fourth quarter, Millersville was able to trim the lead to 70-64. Marecic answered with a three pointer and a free throw from
Courtney Cecere pushed the lead back to ten at 74-64 with 4:05 to play. Eight straight from the Marauders trimmed the lead to 74-72 with three minutes to play. With the Griffins leading by just two, Trest finished a layup and completed the three point play to give SHU a 80-74 lead with 32 seconds left. SHU closed out the win by going 4-4 at the free throw line.
Trest led the Griffins with a season high 24 points. She added 4 rebounds, 3 assists and a steal. Civittolo scored a career high 16 points. Marecic also reached double figures with 12 points and
Katie Nolan added 11.
Hannah Laslo finished with 11 rebounds.
Courtney Cecere had a great all around game with 6 points, 9 rebounds, 5 assists, 3 steals and a block.
SHU returns to action on Tuesday when they travel to Salem University.
