Seton Hill completed its home and home series with Salem University on Tuesday evening when the Griffins traveled to Salem to take on the Tigers. The Griffins nearly reached double figures in a 97-84 win. SHU is now 5-2 on the season while the Tigers drop to 2-8.
The game was close early as the teams were tied at eight just about four minutes into the contest. Over the next four minutes the Griffins outscored the Tigers 17-3 to build a 25-11 lead. Seton Hill took a 27-14 lead into the second quarter.
Salem battled back and cut the lead to nine early in the contest. A three pointer from
Tiana Stewart pushed the lead back to twelve. A three pointer from the Tigers trimmed the lead to six at 30-24 with just over six minutes left in the first half. Back to back layups from
Samantha Kosmacki pushed the lead back to ten points midway thru the quarter. A layin from
Madelyn Fischer pushed the lead to 15 with 2:21 to play. SHU took a 44-31 lead into the second half.
Megan Marecic led SHU with 10 points in the first half. Kosmacki added nine points.
The Griffins opened the second half on a 14-2 run to take a 58-33 lead with 6:17 to play in the quarter.
Cheyenne Trest scored seven points during the run while Marecic added four. SHU took a 70-52 lead into the fourth quarter.
A four point play from Marecic early in the fourth quarter gave the Griffins a 76-55 lead. SHU held a 79-58 lead with 6:53 left in the contest. Salem was able to cut the Griffins lead to nine at two points down the stretch but a three pointer from Trest put the game away.
The Griffins shot 44% from the floor while holding the Tigers to just 32% from the floor. SHU out rebounded the Tigers by a 44-31 margin.
Marecic led five Griffins in double figures. She posted her first double double of the season with 22 points and 13 rebounds. Trest scored 14 points in just 17 minutes of action. Stewart tossed in 13 points while
Katie Nolan added 12.
Lexi Civittolo was the fifth Griffin in double figures with 10. Kosmacki just missed double figures with 9 points.
SHU will return to action on Friday when they host WV State in another non conference matchup.
