Seton Hill rewrote their school record book with a non conference win over WV State on Friday evening in the McKenna Center. The Griffins set a new school record for points scored in their 127-99 victory over the visiting Yellow Jackets. SHU is now 6-2 on the season while the Jackets drop to 3-7.
In the win, the Griffins set new school records for points (127), field goals made (46), three pointers made (17) and assists (36). The points are the third most in Division II this season. The assists are the second most while the field goals made are tied for third most. Its the 8th most three pointers made this season.
The Griffins jumped out to an early 8-2 lead after back to back three pointers from
Megan Marecic and
Lexi Civittolo. A three point play from
Courtney Cecere extended the lead to 11-2. Five straight from
Tiana Stewart pushed the lead to 23-10 late in the first quarter. SHU carried a 25-17 lead into the second quarter of play.
A layin from
Katie Nolan gave the Griffins a 16 point lead of 39-23 midway thru the second quarter. Eight straight points from the Griffins gave them their largest lead of the game to date at 23 at the half. SHU took a 58-35 lead into the halftime break.
The third quarter was very high scoring as the team's combined for 67 points. WV State outscored the Griffins 35-32 to trim the SHU lead to 90-70 after three quarters of action.
The Griffins reached the century mark at the 7:36 mark of the fourth quarter on a basket from
Kennedi Stevenson.
Alison Collins scored 17 points for the Griffins in the fourth quarter as they rolled to the 127-99 win.
SHU shot 71% from the field in the second half on 25-35 shooting. They were also 11-17 from three point land in the half.
Stewart led six Griffins in double figures with a career high 18 points. Civittolo and Collins each finished the game with 17 points. Cecere, Fischer and Stevenson each added 11 points in the win. Cecere finished with a double double with 11 rebounds.
Sydney Rabold reached double figures with 10 assists while adding 6 points. Marecic finished with 6 points and 9 rebounds.
SHU will return to PSAC action on Tuesday when they host East Stroudsburg in a PSAC crossover matchup.
