Seton Hill will close out its pre Christmas portion of the schedule with a pair of PSAC Crossovers at home. The first in which the Griffins hosted East Stroudsburg on Tuesday evening. The Griffins took an early 16-2 lead in the game but could not hold the advantage in falling by the score of 73-58. SHU falls to 6-3 overall and 1-2 in PSAC play while the Warriors improve to 5-5 overall and 2-2 in PSAC play.
SHU came out of the gates and jumped on the Warriors, taking an 11-0 lead in the first 4:30 of the contest, forcing the Warriors to burn a timeout.
Megan Marecic scored five of the first eleven points for the Griffins. After the timeout and another defensive stop,
Courtney Cecere drained a three to give SHU a 14-0 lead with five minutes to play in the quarter. ESU made their first field goal at the 4:20 mark of the quarter.
Cheyenne Trest hit two free throws to put SHU in front 16-2 with 3:54 left. The Griffins would not score the rest of the quarter and the Warriors trimmed the Griffins lead to 16-13 after the first quarter.
East Stroudsburg scored the first four points of the second quarter to close out a 15-0 run that gave them a 17-16 lead early in the second quarter. A layup and two free throws from Marecic gave SHU a 22-19 lead with 4:33 left in the half. Cecere hit the last bucket of the half for the Griffins, giving them a 25-23 lead with 2:21 left. The Warriors scored the final five points of the quarter to take a 28-25 halftime lead.
Marecic put the Griffins back in front 35-34 with a three pointer at the 6:37 mark of the third quarter. After an ESU layup, SHU responded with five straight to push their lead to 40-36 midway thru the quarter. Trest broke a 42 all tie with a three pointer with 2:10 to go in the quarter. ESU scored the final five points of the quarter to take a 47-45 lead into the fourth quarter.
The game was tied three times in the early portion of the fourth quarter, the last at 53-53 with 7:08 to play. ESU then ran off eleven straight points in less than two minutes to build a 64-53 lead with 5:16 to play. The Warriors scored on seven straight possessions to build their lead. SHU got to within eight on a three point playfrom Trest but would get no closer in the fifteen point loss.
The Griffins shot just 35% from the field while the Warriors shot 50%. SHU hit just 4 of 21 three pointers as well. The Warriors also held a 42-31 advantage in rebounds.
SHU will close out their pre Christmas portion of the schedule when they host West Chester on Wednesday.
