The Griffins played their second of back to back PSAC Crossovers on Wednesday evening as they hosted West Chester to close out the pre Christmas portion of their schedule. After a slow start, the Griffins pulled away in the second half for an 81-64 victory. SHU improves to 7-3 overall and 2-2 in PSAC action. West Chester drops to 4-8 overall and 0-5 in PSAC play.
West Chester started the game on fire, jumping out to a 12-2 lead just 3:30 into the contest. After a Griffin timeout, the team responded with a 19-0 run over three minutes and fifty seconds to build a 21-12 lead with 2:40 to play in the quarter.
Katie Nolan had nine points during the run for the Griffins. The run opened with a basket from Nolan followed by three pointers from
Tiana Stewart and
Megan Marecic. The Rams closed the quarter on a 11-2 run to tie the score at 23 heading to the second quarter.
A jumper from
Cheyenne Trest and a three pointer from
Lexi Civittolo gave SHU a 28-23 lead early in the second quarter. A three pointer from Marecic and another from Stewart later in the quarter extended the Griffins lead to 36-34 midway thru the quarter.
Sydney Rabold gave SHU a 38-37 halftime lead with a layin at the 1:56 mark of the quarter.
Civittolo and
Courtney Cecere hit three pointers to open the second half as the Griffins extended their lead to 44-37 early in the second half. Threes from Civittolo and Stewart gave SHU its largest lead to date at twelve points, 54-42, with 3:07 left in the quarter. SHU pushed its lead to 16 on a basket from Stewart before settling for a 58-44 lead heading into the fourth quarter.
Seton Hill built their lead to twenty points at 66-46 with 7:40 to play in the contest. West Chester was able to trim the lead to eleven at 71-60 with three minutes to play but the Griffins closed the game on a 10-4 run for the 81-64 win.
The Griffins finished the game shooting 46% from the floor while holding the Rams to 36%. SHU outrebounded the Rams 48-38 and had 23 assists on 31 made field goals.
Civittolo led the Griffins with 17 points. Stewart finished the game with 16 points. Nolan also reached double figures with 14 points. Marecic posted her second double double of the season with 11 points and 11 rebounds.
SHU will return to action on December 30th when they travel to Lock Haven for a non conference contest.
