Seton Hill closed out 2018 with a road contest at Lock Haven on Sunday afternoon. The game was between two PSAC members but was a non conference matchup. SHU used a 15-0 run in the third quarter to take control of the game and improved to 8-3 with a 76-69 win. The Griffins gave the Bald Eagles their first home loss of the season.
Lock Haven led throughout most of the first quarter as the quarter featured two ties and four lead changes. The Griffins trailed Lock Haven 22-20 after one quarter of action. A jumper by
Madelyn Fischer gave SHU an 18-16 lead late in the quarter.
The Bald Eagles built their lead to 28-20 early in the second quarter. A three point play from
Lexi Civittolo ended the 6-0 LHU run. LHU built their lead back to seven at 35-28 with 4:05 to play in the half. Two free throws from
Sydney Rabold trimmed the lead to 37-36 with just over two minutes to play in the half. The Bald Eagles took a 39-38 lead into the halftime break.
With Lock Haven leading 43-42 with 7:08 to play in the third quarter, the Griffins went on a 15-0 run over the next five minutes to take a 57-43 lead. Five different Griffins scored during the run. Six points from
Tiana Stewart at the end of the quarter gave SHU a 63-52 advantage heading to the fourth quarter.
Lock Haven scored the first ten points of the fourth quarter to trim the Griffins lead to 63-62 midway thru the quarter. A layin from
Megan Marecic ended the LHU run. After a Bald Eagle basket,
Katie Nolan gave SHU a three point lead back at 67-64 with just under four minutes to play. Marecic hit a big three pointer to extend the lead to four at 70-66. Two baskets from Nolan pushed the lead to five at 74-69 with 1:12 to play. Marecic hit two free throws to close out the game and give the Griffins the win.
Marecic posted her third double double of the season with 22 points and 13 rebounds.
Courtney Cecere added a double double with 10 points and 10 rebounds. Nolan reached double figures with 15 points. Civittolo added 12 in the win. Stewart just missed double figures with 8 points.
The Griffins will open PSAC West play on Wednesday when they travel to Slippery Rock for a 5 PM tipoff.
