Seton Hill opened the home portion of their schedule with a matchup with Salem University on Monday evening. The Griffins reached triple figures for the first time since the 2014-15 season as they defeated the Tigers 105-83. SHU improved to 3-1 on the season while the Tigers drop to 0-7.
The 105 points are the most scored by a Griffin team since December 3rd, 2014 when the Griffins posted 106 points against WV Tech. All fourteen Griffins that played in the game put points in the scorebook.
Back to back three pointers from
Megan Marecic gave SHU an early 8-2 lead midway thru the first quarter. The Griffins were able to build their lead to 14 after the first quarter on a three point play from
Kelly Weeks. SHU took a 26-12 lead into the halftime break.
Salem cut the SHU lead back to ten at 26-16 two minutes into the second quarter but the Griffins then went on a 23-6 run to build the lead to 27 points at 49-22 with three minutes to play in the half. Marecic scored eight points during the run. The Tigers ended the half outscoring the Griffins 10-1 to trim the lead to 50-32 at the half.
The Griffins continued to build their lead in the third quarter building their largest lead of the game at 31 (69-38) with 4:22 to play in the third quarter. Salem was able to trim the lead to 18 but the Griffins increased the lead to 80-57 after three quarters of action.
The lead was maintained between 19 and 25 points in the fourth quarter as the Griffins were able to close out the Tigers and improve to 3-1 on the season.
SHU shot 43% from the floor while holding the Tigers to 37%. SHU forced 17 turnovers and outrebounded the Tigers by a 62-46 margin.
Megan Marecic scored a career high 24 points to lead the Griffins. She was 8-11 from the floor and 4-6 from three point land. Megan also was 4-4 from the line and added 8 rebounds, 2 assists and 2 steals.
Cheyenne Trest also reached double figures with 13 points.
Katie Nolan just missed double figures with 9 points.
